Worked example
Invest 10,000 at 8% per year, compounded monthly, for 10 years: A = 10,000 × (1 + 0.08/12)^(12 × 10) = 10,000 × 2.21964 ≈ 22,196.40. Interest earned is about 12,196.40 — compared with 8,000 under simple interest, the extra 4,196 is the effect of compounding.
